💼 The Workforce Center on East Broadway

The Workforce Center @ Mesa opened in late 2022 as a partnership between the City of Mesa, the nonprofit A New Leaf and Maricopa County's ARIZONA@WORK program. It shares a building with MesaCAN.

The menu is practical: resume writing, career assessments, interview coaching, customized job searches, occupational skills training and financial wellness workshops. There is also a professional clothing boutique. The center runs its own hiring events through the year, including the job fairs it has held at the Eagles Community Center on Broadway.

The city says the center serves anyone in the community, regardless of where you live. It calls out a few groups specifically: adults 18 and older, veterans (who get priority service), people returning from incarceration, people facing housing insecurity, and people with disabilities.

📍 The East Valley Career Center on Southern

On the west side, the ARIZONA@WORK East Valley Career Center is the county-run option, with longer hours. It stays open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, which helps anyone working a day shift while looking for something better.

According to Maricopa County, its adult services include job readiness workshops, job search help, occupational skills training, apprenticeships, internships, a computer lab and financial literacy classes. It is also one of only two county job centers offering state DES employment services, reemployment services and DES veterans services on site.

To get individualized help there, you must be at least 18 and legally authorized to work in the U.S., and you need documents to prove it. The county's first steps: create an account on Arizona Job Connection, express interest through the client portal, and bring a valid driver's license when you visit. Staff then reach out to set appointments.

⚠️ What Neither Center Does

Neither office processes unemployment claims. The City of Mesa says so directly. For unemployment insurance, call the Arizona Department of Economic Security at 877-600-2722.

Also call ahead before driving over. Hours and appointment rules change, and Wednesdays on Broadway are appointment-only.

🔎 Where to Aim Your Search

Bring a list of target jobs to your first meeting and the staff can do far more with your hour. Mesa's hiring runs heavy on health care, manufacturing, aerospace around Falcon Field and Gateway, retail, and logistics. Two more hiring events are on the calendar later this month, listed in our Mesa fall job fair guide.
